London has many options for a rainy day, since they have many such rainy days. Even better, many of the museums are free. The National Gallery and the British Museum are two of the best, and most popular but I also enjoy the smaller and quirky Sir John Soane’s Museum and the Cabinet War Rooms Museum, but there are a host of others where you can while away an afternoon.

Some favorites are:

Bank of England Museum

British Library

British National Gallery

Courtauld Institute Gallery

Dulwich Picture Gallery

Hogarth House

Imperial War Museum

Leighton House Museum

Madame Tussaud

Museum of Childhood

Museum of London

National Gallery

National Maritime Museum

National Portrait Gallery

Royal Academy of Arts

Science Museum

Sir John Soane’s Museum

Tate Modern

Tate Britain

Transport Museum

Victoria and Albert Museum

Wallace Collection

Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum

While visiting the Tate Modern for a great meal with spectacular, romantic views over London, it’s hard to beat the sleek and stylish Tate Modern Restaurant located on level 7 of London’s Tate Museum of Modern. From Sunday to Thursday the restaurant is only open from 10:00 – 6.00 pm, but on Friday and Saturday the restaurant stays open until 11:00 p.m. and offers incomparable views and good food.

A Rainy Day in ….Santa Fe, NM

story and photos by Kayte Deioma

Despite the fact that Santa Fe boasts an average of 300 days of sunshine per The ĄCARNAVAL! exhibit at the Museum of International Folk Arts, Santa Fe, New Mexico.year, all travel guides warn to be prepared for inclement weather. Especially in summer, thunderstorms blow in and make their presence felt before blowing away again to make way for more scorching sunshine. In summer, it may be the heat, as well as the rain that has you seeking an inner sanctum. No fear, Santa Fe offers an extensive array of world-class museums, galleries, spas and other ways to stay cool and dry in the summer or warm and dry in the winter.

Rainy Day Berlin

A Shot in the Rain: Berlin, Germany

The German flag seen through the rain-spattered Reichstag Dome.
Best known as the city divided after the Second World War… by the conquerors, by doctrine and by a big ugly wall designed to keep the residents on the East from defecting to the West, Berlin is doing its best to regain its pre-war position as an international capitol. Revamped palaces, shiny new world-class museums, architecture from the middle ages through the iron curtain to the new age, clubbing from funky to chic to A-list-only and of course plenty for shoppers from come-as-you-are outdoor flea markets to look-but-don’t-touch designer boutiques.

Sitting outside in a Biergarten, dining at an outdoor restaurant on the Gendarmemarkt, a river cruise on the Spree or a walking tour of the historic Nikolei Quarter are all great things to do in Berlin on a clear day. But with an average of 13 days of rain per month, there’s a good chance that if you stay a couple days in Berlin you might run into a few showers.

On a rainy day in Berlin, we take you to the Jewish Museum Berlin, The Story of Berlin Exhibition, the German Reichstag and the German Museum of Technology.
